In a small lane of the steet Pham Ngu Lao where gathers the most travelers and backpackers, hides the most authentic coffee flavor from Hanoi. The coffee shop ”Goc Ha Noi” is run by the owner Le Phuong Nhung herself, and she wants to spread the unique coffee culture of Vietnam to the world. Her family ran a coffee shop in Hanoi in the 1960s, and now she sees herself as a inheritor of her family.
There are many rumors about the origin of the egg coffee. The most credible story is that it is invented by a barista working in a five-star hotel in Hanoi in the 1940s. And that is the time when milk is extremely expensive for lack of resources. However, the Vietnames people enjoy coffee with some milk in it. The idea of egg coffee came to this barista’s mind. He replaced the milk with yolk and fully stirred it to the foam shape. He poured the foam onto Vietnamese coffee and that’s what we called the egg coffee. The most challenging part of egg coffee is the level of foaming and the percentage of foam and coffee. Her handcraft and excellent skills of egg coffee make the egg coffee can be seen again in the Ho Chi Minh City.
In Vietnamese, “Goc Ha Noi” means a corner of Hanoi. The idea of this coffee shop came to her mind when she found that it’s so hard to get a cup of good egg coffee in this city. As a result, she quit her job and opened this coffee shop in the region where there are the most travelers from all around the world.
“I hope my customers can really taste the most original egg coffee in Goc Ha Noi. The most pleasing thing for me is to hear the compliments from my customers who share their surprise with me.
